Tae Kwon Do

Tae Kwon Do

Tae Kwon Do is a striking style of martial art, similar to the Okinawan Kung-Fu Karate or Shotokan Karate; Silat, Muay Thai, Savate, or other types of Kickboxing. It involves varying types of kicks, punches, strikes, blocks, and stances. Forms and their accompanying Self-Defenses are used to help teach and develop these techniques. Sparring is used as a competitive tool to aid in teaching self-control, self-discipline, speed, power, fighting technique, and how to implement self-defense skills.

Tae Kwon Do does not condone or encourage the use of or desire for violence. Tae Kwon Do seeks to teach self-discipline, self-control, mental and physical fitness, self-defense, respect, modesty, courtesy, integrity, perseverance, leadership, and knowledge.

Kinderhook Martial Arts and Fitness Center offers varying types of martial art disciplines. We primarily teach Tae Kwon Do and Defensive Hapkido, though elements of Kenpo Karate, Jujutsu, Judo, and other forms of martial arts are injected. We feel that a student should not limit themselves, and should be curious of other forms of martial arts, incorporating elements of those disciplines that the student feels comfortable with into their regimen. We are dedicated to and encourage the expansion of one’s knowledge.
